The Walled City Music Festival invites expressions of interest to take part in a composer workshop as part of the 2025 Walled City Music Festival programme.

Up to 6 places are available to participate and composers are asked to submit compositions for one or two saxophones, with or without piano and/electronics. Compositions should be either i) a pre-existing work which has yet to receive a public performance, or ii) a new composition, which should be no longer than 5 minutes in length.

Compositions will be workshopped with guest artists Gerard McChrystal and Christopher Creviston (saxophones) with Hannah Creviston (piano), led by the WCMF 2025 Composer in Residence, Linda Buckley.  There will be a public performance of the pieces workshopped on the afternoon of Saturday 15 March.

Composers will then be asked to submit their composition by Friday 28th February. Electronics and/or tape playback may be available to composers, if requested in advance and available. Compositions can be written for one saxophone (with or without piano), two saxophones, or all three instruments, as outlined above.  Saxophones available will be alto and soprano.

Linda Buckley will also be available in Derry on 13-14 March to provide advice and guidance to composers on the works submitted.

Accommodation in Derry for one night is available for each composer, upon request.
