Walled City Music and Northern Lights Project present Electric Circus with Darragh Morgan: an exciting programme of new music for violin and electronics, including several premieres.

Irish violinist Darragh Morgan has appeared as a soloist and chamber musician at The Wigmore Hall, Aldeburgh Festival, Maerzmusik Berlin, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, BBC Proms, Osterfestival Tirol, Bang on a Can Marathon New York, National Sawdust, Philips Collection Washington DC, Beijing Modern Music Festivala and Shanghai Oriental Arts Centre. He has performed concertos with National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, Ulster Orchestra, Johannesburg Philharmonic, Istanbul Symphony and European Union Chamber Orchestra.
Darragh has been invited as Concertmaster with London Sinfonietta, Ensemble Modern, Les Siecles, The Philharmonia and Aurora Orchestra. He has recorded 75+ albums of chamber music, many of which have received Diaspon D’or and Gramophone Awards. Darragh has collaborated with as diverse composers as Scanner to Mira Calix, Shiva Feshareki to Gerald Barry and Donnacha Dennehy to Michael Finnissy. He is violinist in the renowned Fidelio Trio and a former member of The Smith Quartet. Darragh plays an 1848 violin by Giuseppe Rocca and has a PhD in Music from University of Ulster.
Electric Circus is Ireland’s newest contemporary music ensemble. With a focus on works that intertwine acoustic instruments and 3d electronic sound, the group commissions new work, develops collaborative projects and facilitates artist residencies in North-West Ireland. Electric Circus is an initiative of Northern Lights Project and is managed and directed by Peter O’Doherty.
Peter O’Doherty studied at the Universities of Edinburgh and Ulster, specialising in composition and contemporary performance. His music and sound works have been performed in Ireland, Scotland, the former Yugoslavia, Finland and The Netherlands, most recently by the ensembles Hard Rain SoloistEnsemble and rarescale.
As a performer of electroacoustic music he has appeared at RAMP Festival of Contemporary and Experimental Music (Rathmullan, Donegal, Ireland), Belfast International Arts Festival and Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival.
He is artistic director of Northern Lights Project, a Derry-based organisation that promotes, produces and commissions new music. He recently founded Electric Circus to promote new music for acoustic instruments and spatialised electronic sound.
