WCM International Piano Festival

Programme of Events

10 - 17 July 2023

Our five-day non-competitive festival will run from Monday 27 June until Friday 1 July in Magee Campus, Ulster University. The programme of events will include:

  • Lessons with the Festival faculty
  • Open classes, workshops and talks
  • Daily student performing opportunities
  • Piano faculty concerts
  • Social events

A typical day in the Festival schedule:

  • 9am – 12pm:  Morning masterclasses running simultaneously throughout the campus
  • 12:30pm – 1:30pm: Lunchtime concert by students in the Great Hall using two beautiful Steinway pianos
  • 2pm – 5pm: Afternoon masterclasses, as above
  • 7pm – 8:30pm: Gala concerts performed by Faculty, with some student showcases and opportunities for students to perform with Faculty on fun multiple-hands piano works, such as four hands, six hands, eight hands and two pianos.

Social events to include:

  • Live traditional Irish music and dance
  • Walking tour of the City
  • Reception with the Mayor
  • Community concerts

Practice Time

Practice rooms will be assigned as needed throughout festival week, according to availability and time limits.


Festival participants should arrive on Sunday June 26th or early on Monday June 27th, and depart on Saturday July 2nd. All participants will receive complimentary Festival passes to the annual Walled City Music Festival, which takes place the week before, from June 23-26. These concerts include the Brodsky Quartet, Ulster Orchestra, Sandbox Percussion and Andy Akiho, and a wide range of educational and community workshops.
