WCM International Academy
Competition Information
10 - 17 July 2026
Rounds & Repertoire
- The WCM International Academy Competition consists of two rounds: a 10-minute Preliminary Round and a 20-minute Final Round. Both rounds will take place on Friday 17 July.
- A select number of participants will be chosen by the judges to advance to the Final Round.
- The repertoire required is the performer’s own choice, and pieces may be repeated between rounds. Performers may present longer works, but they will be stopped at the time limit in each round. This will not affect the competitor’s standing.
-
In addition, all finalists are required to perform a newly commissioned work by Christopher Norby. This piece is compulsory and must be included as part of the Final Round performance. It is to be performed in addition to the 20-minute free-choice programme and is not included within that time allocation.
The score for this commissioned work will be issued to all registered participants by email on 8 May
Judging & Performance Rules
- All decisions made by the judges are final.
- Competitors must provide a printed copy of each piece for the judges’ reference. Original scores are encouraged.
- Performances must be memorised, except for complex works from the late 20th or 21st century, which may be played using the score.
- If a performance exceeds the time limit, judges may stop the performance. This will not affect the results.
Media & Feedback
- By participating, competitors grant permission for their photographs or video extracts to be used on the competition’s website and social media.
- All participants will receive written feedback from the judges.
